What determines a turning quotation?

How material, geometry, quantity and tolerances shape the scope of a quotation.

ENS Makina San · Manufacturing guides

A turning quotation depends on more than part size. Material, machining time, setup, quantity, tolerances and inspection requirements are reviewed together. A single unit price without a defined technical scope can be misleading.

How does material affect cost?

Machinability, availability and starting stock dimensions matter alongside raw material cost. Identical geometry in different materials can require different process steps. If the material is unknown, state this in your enquiry.

Why does quantity matter?

Programming, tooling and fixturing may create an initial setup requirement. Its effect per component depends on quantity. Higher volume does not imply the same proportional price reduction in every case; cycle time, material and inspection still matter.

What do tolerances and surface requirements change?

Tight tolerances or special surface requirements can need additional processes, different tooling or inspection. Clearly identify critical areas instead of requesting unnecessary precision on non-functional surfaces.

How should quotations be compared?

Compare the same material, quantity, drawing revision, inspection scope, external processes and delivery conditions. Check what is included rather than comparing totals alone.

Explore turning and machining and prepare your enquiry. Pricing and timing are confirmed after the scope is reviewed.
