ENS Makina San · Manufacturing guides
Turned parts have rotational surfaces produced through turning operations. Shafts, bushings, pins, spacers and flange-like components are common examples. Feasibility depends on dimensions, material, workholding and technical requirements rather than the component name alone.
A part described as a shaft may still need a keyway, side hole, heat treatment or another secondary process. Identify these requirements at the enquiry stage.
What should a shaft enquiry include?
Overall length and stepped diameters are a starting point. Bearing seats, shoulder distances, mating parts and threads may be equally important. For a replacement shaft, distinguish worn measurements from the intended functional dimensions.
A photograph can support discussion but should not be expected to establish precise dimensions. A drawing or measured sample information is needed to define the scope.
What matters for a bushing?
Specify bore, outside diameter, length and installation method together. Operating conditions and mating material can affect material selection. A broad term such as bronze bushing may not establish the required material grade.
What matters for a flange?
Provide the connection holes, their arrangement, centring surfaces and joint requirements. For a pressure-related or standardised connection, include the relevant technical conditions. Shape alone does not establish compliance with a standard.
Can a sample be used?
A sample can support an assessment, but wear, damage or earlier repairs may have changed it. Functional dimensions, material, acceptance criteria and any drawing or approval work must be clarified before production.
